General information only
The content of this site is patient education. It describes what makes a face red, how the patterns are told apart, and what treatment costs in time and in consistency. It is not a diagnosis, it is not a treatment recommendation for any individual, and it does not create a doctor-patient relationship.
No substitute for examination
Which pattern of redness you have depends on findings that can only be established by examining you: what the skin does under light and pressure, what the distribution of the redness is, whether the skin stings or burns, what you are using on it, and sometimes the results of blood tests. Reading this site cannot substitute for that, and a routine chosen from a website alone is a routine chosen without a diagnosis.
Results vary and are not guaranteed
Individual results differ, treatment works over weeks and months rather than days, and no clinician and no website can guarantee an outcome. Any statement that appears to promise one should be treated with suspicion wherever you encounter it. Redness that settles with treatment returns when the treatment stops, and the tendency to flush is managed rather than removed.
If something changes quickly
If you develop blistering or peeling skin, a rash spreading rapidly, fever or feeling unwell, a hot swollen area on the face, eye pain or light sensitivity, or swelling of the lips, tongue or throat, seek medical care promptly. Difficulty breathing is an emergency and should be treated as one.
